A stunning matched set of two vintage Chinese hexagonal lacquered wood boxes — sophisticated decorative pieces with a deep dark burgundy / oxblood lacquer exterior in a rich high-gloss finish. Each box features a solid brass front clasp with a decorative cloud-shaped drop latch and two brass hinges on the back, opening to reveal a lush green velvet/felt lined interior. The hexagonal tapered form is beautifully architectural.  Labeled on the bottom: ART. NO. C-1157 / MADE IN THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA — classic Chinese export lacquerware craftsmanship consistent with late 20th century (1970s–1980s) PRC export production. These are the kind of pieces that look expensive on a shelf — jewelry boxes, trinket holders, or pure decorative objects.
