Description
This is a circa 1905–1910 Vienna Art Plate (tin lithograph promotional advertising plate), patented February 21, 1905. These were made primarily by the H.D. Beach Co. of Coshocton, Ohio (and related firms), as affordable decorative giveaways that imitated more expensive European porcelain portrait plates. The back is marked “Compliments of Emerson-Newton Co., Kansas City, Mo. Implements, Wagons & Vehicles.” Emerson-Newton was a Kansas City firm dealing in farm implements, wagons, and vehicles during the horse-drawn era (related to broader implement/wagon companies of the period). These plates were common advertising premiums given to customers or dealers. • Front shows typical age wear: scratches, some dark spots/paint loss (especially on the dress and dark background), and edge wear. • The portrait of the young woman (star in hair, pink sash, ornate gold-on-blue border) remains clear and attractive. • Back has crazing/cracking in the cream enamel and some staining/spots, which is very common on these tin pieces. • Overall: average to good for a 110+ year-old tin advertising plate
