Description
This is a Wajima-nuri Wajima Keizuka Shukunshi Maki-e Four-Tiered Jubako (tiered lacquered box).
Reasonably priced item with defects.
Natural wood, urushi lacquer (While there is no quality tag, I guarantee it is natural wood).
Reason for Defects:
One of the four boxes has two cracks. (Please refer to image 11).
Since there are two cracks in only one box, the other three boxes are in good condition.
The maki-e design does not have a continuous connection between the tiers, so it is not noticeable if one piece is missing.
The Shukunshi (Four Gentlemen) maki-e design of Bamboo, Plum, Orchid, and Chrysanthemum is applied all over.
This is likely an old jubako from the Showa to early Heisei era, but it appears to have been used infrequently. Aside from the cracks, there is no noticeable damage.
The size is a standard 6.5-inch square.
The original box has burn stains.
